Also, it’s important to understand that you do not need to be an expert angler to have a great day with Griff Marshall Outdoors on the Lower Deschutes. We’ve hosted countless complete newbies. Getting a client who’s never fly fished into their first trout on the Lower Deschutes River is one of our favorite things. And you don’t need to own fly-fishing equipment. We supply rods and reels and can arrange for wader and boot rental if you need them.

Your Lower Deschutes River fly fishing day trip will be an all-day adventure. You’ll be on the river for eight hours, covering nearly ten miles, stopping along the way to fish and eat lunch. What time we start and finish will depend on when we think the fishing will be best, although we are happy to work within any scheduling limitations you have. Once on the river you will be taught the critical elements of presenting flies to native Redband rainbow trout. Lunch is typically enjoyed on the banks of the river in a shady spot. While fishing, we’ll target riffles, pools, banks or runs; wherever we think the fish are most actively feeding. We might fish nymphs under indicators or large dry flies, cast pure dry flies along the bank or swing sculpin patterns with a switch rod. Regardless of where and how we’re fishing, your guide will give you the best opportunities to have a bent rod in your hands!
